The Benetton Formula 1 race team was created in 1985 after the Benetton family bought the Toleman and Spirit teams. The new owner brought a lot of money to this rather anonymous team and a lot of ambition, Toleman’s head designer Rory Byrne had now the means to design a very serious Formula 1. After an interesting Berger’s victory at Mexico in 1986 with the BMW Turbo engine, the next three seasons were to be disappointing for the newly formed team. Despite great chassis ( Rory Byrne drawn all of the 7 Schumacher World Champion cars ), Benetton could only be the witness of the McLaren vs Williams epic battle of the end of the 80s, the various Turbo and aspired engines never allowed the cars to be competitive enough. In 1989 the Benetton family re-structured the team and named respectively Flavio Briatore at the head of the management and John Barnard at the design. The 3 times world champion Nelson Piquet was entrusted to drive the new B190 designed by Byrne before he left Benetton for two years at the end of 1989. Introduced at the San Marino Grand Prix, the new car was very successful as Piquet managed to win the last two races, finishing 3rd at the Championship, same result for the team scoring a remarkable 71 points at the constructors one. This was the very best season from Benetton until 1994 and Schumacher’s title, the B190 is also one of the nicest looking F1 from this period
This car chassis B 190-04 was driven by Nelson Piquet in 1990 and left the factory in 2000 when Benetton dispatched all of the cars from 1985 to 1995. It was completely rebuilt and made race ready in 2005 as the new owner used the car many times in private testing cessions. Carefully restored into its original specifications it has a fresh and very powerful Cosworth HB 3.5 V8 engine. We remind that this engine is the easier to race, only needing low maintain during its long lifetime compared with the contemporary ones. The Benetton is ready to be used and to be entered in various historic Formula 1 championships, where it will be a serious competitor. Driven many times at SPA and Le Castellet it proved to be a fabulous car to drive. A huge set of spare parts can be bought with the car at extra cost, price depends on the parts needed. This very nice B190 is to be considered as a very fine offer being a historically interesting car and ready to race. Price : 145 000 € |
