Mercedes-Benz 190er EVO 2 DTM - ex Ludwig
No price quotation back »
The DTM championship appeared in 1984 with Group A cars, the BMW 635, Rover Vitesse, Volvo 240 and FORD RS 500 were the Stars from the 80s. Slowly the championship moved to higher specifications cars no more based on the Group A regulations. This was then the time of the fabulous BMW M3 Sport EVO, AUDI V8, ALFA 155 and for sure the Mercedes 190 EVO II. Not really interested by the DTM at the beginning and concentrated on Group C program Mercedes realised that it was a good publicity support and asked AMG to prepared “semi-factory” cars, K. Ludwig was then entrusted and 500 “EVO 1” road cars were built to homologate the 2.5 liter engine and a larger bodywork, the team obtain good results that year. In 1990 the EVO 2 was introduced in the middle of the season after the 500 road version had been built, the homologation was obtained just before the Nurburgring race. In 1991 Ludwig and AMG missed the title against the AUDIs but largely dominated the 1992 season. In 1993 the 190 was not really competitive but thanks to its reliability and Ludwig’s skill, AMG managed to reach the 2nd place of the championship. Since 1994, the DTM regulations have turned into “Silhouette” cars, the 190 EVO II was the very emblematic car from the last real touring cars period of the early 90s. - - - This car is sold we are looking for a similar one - - -

This 190 EVO II is an ex. Ludwig car ( number 7 ) from the 1990 DTM. After being used in DTM in 1991 it was fitted with a black bumper from the 1991 version and used on promotional tour by Mercedes. Bought by Brenner ( 7 times German Champion ), it left AMG in 1994 to be raced in the German Hill Climb Championship which it did until 1997. Not used until 2004 when it was dismantled and restored by Brenner and his son before being raced again in this Championship in 2005 and 2006, now the car has recovered its original DTM colours and is in fantastic condition. This car is particulary interesting as it was not altered from its original 1990 specifications and still retains all of the original AMG factory parts. Technically this Mercedes is amazing : the fresh engine producing 335 CV at 9300 rpm, coupled with a modified M3 Group A gear box is breathtaking, the suspension largely using magnesium and aluminium makes handling fantastic whilst huge AP brakes shortly stop the car. Though being a touring car derivated, the EVO II DTM is an extremely quick machine and immensely rewarding to drive. It comes with an interesting spares package including a rear axle, body, brakes, suspensions parts and wheels. We had recently the pleasure to be invited to the Goodwood Festival of Speed, where this stunning car made a remarked appearance. It was also recently the subject of large article in the French magazine “Gentlemen Drivers”. As a consequence to it’s perfectly straight history the car’s file contains pictures when it left the factory in 1994 still into AMG colours, some pictures when it was raced in Hill Climbs and also some from the restoration along with bills of sale. A great chance to acquire one of the most significant touring race car ever built. Only serious inquires please.
